I The Surveyors' report was read aa 1 follows : — < 1. Mr Smithies' application. — We have I seen Mr Smithies re his application for < an outlet for stoim water along the Long- < beach road, and It appears tha cause of i his complaint is through the flood water ' ooming down a road m the Upper Ash- | burton Road Distriot aad crowing the line and the South road through the County Council plantation, and on to his land. We have not been able to inspeot the source of the mischief, but are of opinion that the water w'll have to be diverted on the road mentioned, or turned down the South road Into the oreek beyond the plantation. 2. Drain?, Ford's Road.— We have interviewed'the ocoupiers of land fronting on this road with reference to the cleaning out of the drains, and the majority of them have consented to pay half the oost of the work. Messrs Mahoney, Horsey, McKenzie and Chapman say that there is • private drain running along the road fence on the Inside of their properties which is deeper than the road drain, consequently takes the water away from their land, they, therefore, argue that the drain on the outside is of no benefit to them, and they therefore decline to pay any portion of the oost. We have called for tenders for the work In three oontraots whloh will before yon to-day. 3. Terraoa Road.— We have notified the eontraotors to get on at onoe with the woiks let on this road.
