The monthly mooting of the Longbeach Road Boird wai held m the Board's offioe, ( Longbeaoh road, on Thursday April 4tb. — Present — Messrs J. Grlgg (Chairman), A. Dawson, J. Williams, S, Holland aad J, Shearer. ! OOBBESPONDENCB. Letters were read — (1) From Mr J. * Wheeler asking to bo supplied with j timber to makj a orossing over drala at - bis entrance, aad drawing the attention ] of the Board to a bad ford on Osbornea road. It was resolved to soppiy the ' necessary timber for bridge, and the ' Surveyors were instructed to inspeot fo?d, j (2)— From Mr D. I The Surveyors' report was read aa 1 follows : — < 1. Mr Smithies' application. — We have I seen Mr Smithies re his application for < an outlet for stoim water along the Long- < beach road, and It appears tha cause of i his complaint is through the flood water ' ooming down a road m the Upper Ash- | burton Road Distriot aad crowing the line and the South road through the County Council plantation, and on to his land. We have not been able to inspeot the source of the mischief, but are of opinion that the water w'll have to be diverted on the road mentioned, or turned down the South road Into the oreek beyond the plantation. 2. Drain?, Ford's Road.— We have interviewed'the ocoupiers of land fronting on this road with reference to the cleaning out of the drains, and the majority of them have consented to pay half the oost of the work. Messrs Mahoney, Horsey, McKenzie and Chapman say that there is • private drain running along the road fence on the Inside of their properties which is deeper than the road drain, consequently takes the water away from their land, they, therefore, argue that the drain on the outside is of no benefit to them, and they therefore decline to pay any portion of the oost. We have called for tenders for the work In three oontraots whloh will before yon to-day. 3. Terraoa Road.— We have notified the eontraotors to get on at onoe with the woiks let on this road. The contractor for formation has promised to proceed with the work at onoe, but we have not heard anything from Skllllng, the contractor for making drain at the lower end of the road. 4. Tenders. — Tenders have been called for work authorised on Waterton new road, and shingling Surveyors' road. 5 Maintenance Man .-The maintenance man has been engaged m repairing bridges, the decking of several of which we found to have become very defective, repairing ford and patching on Longbeaoh Road, Ac. Bis diary lies on the table for inspection, Clause 1. — The Surveyors to inspect the aouroe of the evil, and write to Mr Smithies on the subject. Clause 2.— The Surveyors to get all the occupiers of land on one side or the other to contribute, and have the work done. Clause 3. — Resolved to call for fresh tenders for making drain on Terrace Boad. CHATMOS3 BOAD. The Surveyors were instructed to notify Mr T. Eayman to proceed with his oontract at once. It was resolved to call for tenders for makiog drain on the upper end of this road. TENBBBS. The tender of P. Tulley 'for dellyering shingle from O'Shannasey's drain on to Surveyor's Boad at. Is 9d per yard was accepted, — Only one tender was received ' for cleaning drains on Ford's Road, bat as all the occupiers of land fronting the , road had not agreed to contribute towards the cost of the work, the matter was held ■ over.* -No tenders were received for work on Waterton New Road, and it was 1 resolved to re-invite tenders for the work. 1 LONdBEACH BOAD ' The Surveyors were instructed to have ridges along tha side of the Longbeioh Boad taken eff btoddart's creek. It was reeoVed to call for tenders for ' widening and straightening 10 chains of Stoddart'a creek below McLonnan's road. 1 ANNUAL MERTING. date of the annual meeting of » ratepayers was fixed for Thursday.
