Auckland, March 17.
The hearing of the case agalust Michael MoDermott, on a charge of manslaughter, tvas terminated at the Supreme Court on Saturday, when, after deliberating seven hours and a half, the jury acquitted the ptleoner, on the ground that he was insane. McDermott was removed to Mount Eden gaol, whence he will, no doubt, be 0 tnmitted to the Lunatic Aaylctro. James Caloraft waa found guilty of having set fire to a haystack at Waitake'rel, and was sentenced to five yearn 1 penal servitude. This concluded the criminal sessions of the Court.
