ENGLAND AND SAMOA.
In the House of Corarnona Sir Jam,eg tJnderSepretary for Foreign Affair., replying to Mr Howard Vincent, M.P. for Sheffield, said ihe British Government had been requested by the Samoan chiefs to annex Samoa, but the Government, however, were compelled to refuse the request, but had been able to effect a satisfactory arrangement which would secure the autonomy of the islands.
