The Roy A Beattie, of Ashburton, wits appointed Moderator. In his opening addreos he remarked that one could soaroely oredlt the amount of spiritual Ignoranoe existing m all oiroles of society at the present day, and m none more than In those calling themselves literary and scientific. They could pot fail to be shocked and grieved at the language regarding the Bible, purporting to come from the lips of some of our legislators m their places m Parliament, and reported In the publlo papers. Referring to the Kda oation system, the Moderator said It was poscibie, without offending tne qoosoienoa of anyone, to have suitable portions, of the Bible read and expounded In a perfectly unseotariaa way m all the publlo sobools and Colleges of New Zealand, Many of the people of this country, Including some of our statesmen, bad already come to see, what ail must eventually find out, that the best religious is the best aeoalar education after all. '
