NEW SOUTH WALES.
Sydney, January 29. The captain of the American ship Southern Cross, which arrived from New York to-day, reports that on Sunday last a Chinese cook belonging to the vessel, without any apparent cause, barricaded the gallery, and corn* menced firing with a revolver at all and sundiy. All efforts of both the captain and mate to induce the man to come out were without avail, and as the Celestial was believed to be insane, the officers m order to protect themselves and the crew, opened fire and killed him.
