ASHBURTON SCHOOL COMMITTEE
Tfoe ordinary monthly meeting of the AihbQctou School Oommltteo was held at the Borough School last evening. Preterit — MeißH Gideon Soott (Chairman), Cook, W. Cralghead, E. J. Paul, Eliton, and Steele. BAI.ARCI BHBST. The balanoe-aheet fot the year was laid on the table. It showed a otedlt balance of £35 17b. '. • OORBESPONDENCB. . Lettew were read— (l) From the Board of Education, advlilng the payment Into the Committee's account of £86 2o 7d on account of salaries an 3 inoldental expenditure. (2) From the Board, stating that ' Mr W. A. Kennedy bad been appointed second master at the fiohool, and that he would begin his duties on January 21st. (3) From Mr W. H. Kneen, resigning his position as headmaster. He thanked the Committee fcr kindness shown him, ard maintained that the work dove dating the past year ooold not have been better, the Inspectors not* withstanding. (4) Prom the Board of Education, with referenoe to the headmaster, recommending that h> resign his appolntrapafc. ' ' '•"■ Some discussion ensued, the maj >sity of the members of the Oommltte expreislng the opinion that m view of the resolutions they nadprevioa'ly passed they would be stultifying themeelrea if they now accepted the master's resignation,— The Chairman thought that the action of the Bpard left the Committee no other course than to resign. He moved that a special meeting be held on Thursday week to consider the advisablenees of the Com mittee resigning m a body.— Seconded by MrElnton and carried, — It was resolved on the motion of Mr Paul, seconded by the Chairman, to hold the waster's reßig? naliop \n abeyance until the special meeting had been hold, an amendment by Mr Craighead that it be forwarded to the Board being lost.-— (5) From the Board of Education asking the Com mittee to nominate two candidates for vacancies on the Board. — The Committee deoided to aomi nate Meiers C, 0 Bower and A. E. Cunningham, two of the retiring memberp. TIBITINa OOHtfITTBB. Mecsrs Cook and Eleton were appointed a Visiting Committee for the month. FATHBHTS. . Accounts were passed for payment and the Committee adjourned.
