Hyacinth was m port, having arrived on December 14, She brought two shipwrecked crewa, 15 men from tbe German ship, Hermann, and eight from a Swedlßh barque, Virgo. These veaaela had been at Wa'den laland loading guano. On November 27* heavy westerly gale sat In and drove both on laod though strongly moored. Th* oaptaln, mate, and four haoda of the Virgo were drowned In the aurf through' a boat upsetting. Both veavala became total wrecks ahortly after they struck the reefs, but sufficient provisions were got from the Hermann to last : the survivors till the Hyacinth arrived on December 4
