Bain has fallen generally m country districts and the drought appears to be broken, Sydnbt. Deoember 15 In the Armidale district splendid rains have fallen, but more is required. The country looks well, but crops of hay, potatoes, and com will only yield about a fourth tbe usual average. The wheat harvest has been saved. At Carowa grass and water are scarce. Harvesting is proceeding and the yield will be much below the average. High prices for produce still prevail. Discouraging reports are received from the Carcoar district and m several instances the yield will not be above one bag to the acre. The rain has benefited the crops m the southern districts and favorable reports are being received. A violent thunderstorm and rain has | been experienced during the last ! twenty-four hours, principally centred m the Southern districts. The rainfall is registered m Sydney as three inches. Several houses m the city and suburbs were struck by lightning. The Parramatta river is m high flood, and a large building on its bank was washed away and much damage done. The New Zealand Cable house, at La Perouse was struck by lightning and set on fire. The flames, however, were soon extinguished and little damage was done.
