ELECTION OP CHAIRMAN. A special meeting waa held at noon for the election of Chairman for the ensuing year. The Clerk took the chair f>r the time being and asked for nominations for the offiae. Mr Jackson had much p'easnro In proposing Me Walker as Chairman for t V| e : ensuing year. Ha had bean aasoolated with Mr Walker for many yean m the ! Council work, and the relations between the Connoil and its Chairman had. during the whole of that time, been of a most cordial and satlafaot6ry nature. Ha considered that the Council had beeo vary fortunate In having a man like Mr Walker to preside at their meetings and oondaot their business. Mr Gflgg Bsco-ided Mr Jaokson's motion, He eadorsed the mover's remarks as to Mr Walker's worth and ability, and trusted that gentleman would allow hlmaelr to be re-eleo cd. The moion was then put to the meeting and oarrled unanimously. Mr Walkor thanked the Council imnt sincerely for the kind manner m which he had been proposed as Chairman, and for the fuck of their having again eleoted him to that office. He took the chair with a oartain cmount of diffi ieuce, for m spit 9 of their klndneßß, he knew how far Bhorr he was sometimes of what he would wiah. Tbe position was at times a difficult one, ard frequently great responsibility foil to his lot. He would promise them that m the future he would oontinue to do his beat, as he had m the psß , aod he thanked them for the confidence they had reposed In him. A pleasant feature of his past tenire of the offioe had been the support and good feeling the Council bad always aoooi'ded him. He hoped that this good feeling would always continue, for the duties of tbe Chainmn, though rst times reep nalble, would thea a'ways be a pleasure to perform.
