UPPER ASHBURTON ROAD BOARD.
The usual monthly meeting of c\ • Upper Aahbucton Road Board was held on Monday. Present : Moeara McLean (Chairman), Stir*, Sarijont and Campbell, OORUBSPONDBNCB. Lotters wore roud (1) From Commissioner stating that voucher for balance of subsidy duo to tho Board, v'.z. } £26 17a Gd, hid been sent on to tho Troaßury.— (2) From tho Oounty Council forwarding copy of a.lettor received from Mr Sargent •nd other gontlemon, drawing the Chairman's attention to the overflow of the north branch Aohburton river, and asking the Council to assist m the reqilsite work. Tho Council detiired to know If the Board wore willing to contribute towards the work. — Mr Sargent explained to the Board what work had already been dono.— The Oletk waa Instructed to reply that the Board Intended contributing towards the work, — (3) From Pablio Works offioa forwerdlDg copy of propoaod Bill to amend the Publlo Worko Aotß, and requesting opinion of the Board regarding tho prospective measure. — (4) From Mr J. Canning calling the attention cf ths Board to the bad state of the Greek road, on whloh he stated thera was a great deal of stagnant water. It was resolved that Messrs Stitt and Campbell should Interview tha owners of adjolulog properties through which the creek runs, with a view to having tho nuisance abatod.— (6; From Mr Jas Porter asking that William street ba formed, and offering to contribute £1 towards the work. —Tho Clerk was instructed to reply that as tho road had not yet been handed over to tho Board, they could do nothing In tho matter.— (6) From Messrs Slloook, Ornlghead, Murray and others asking that co work be undertaken for the present at Ruwlo'b oroaalng. — This letter was the oatoorao of a ratepayers meeting,— Mr Campbell said that should the Bjard deem It necessary the rate- 1 payers of Allenton would not he thought objeot to tba expenditure of a sum not oxoeeding £4.— The matter waa loft In the hands of Mr Sargont and the Clerk.— (7) From Mr W. Dalgotly ofFering to ront Seotlon 1032, gravel reserve In the Ohertsdy district for £1 per annum for three yours and offering to fence tho eeotlon.— The offjr was accepted on the conditions that the fence be kopt iv good repair and no gome allowed to spread OtKRK's RBPORT. The Clerk's report was road and adopted Tho requests of the ratepayers for a culvert over the Alford Foreat road, opposite the Woollo') Faotory, and for tho formation of Cross street, were held over till next meeting, FORD. Mr R. Mclntyre brought nudor the notlpe of the Board the |state of the road opposite Mr Sargent'ejproperty. Ho said that no ford had been mado aoroes the. now road joining with tho Alford Forest road, and consequently storm water waa diverted and flooded hfs pro« perty. Ho offerod to moko a ford, to tho satisfaction of tho Board for the sum of £3. The offer was nooopted. TENDEHB. The following tondera were accepted: — Shingling on Haokthorno road, R.
