THE GORDON STATUE.
The unveiling of the statue erected m honor of General Gordon was attended with very little ceremony, and the Press generally characterised the conduct of the Committee ?s shabby m not making a popular demonstration. Mr D. R. Plunkctt m defending action of the Committee said that silence was necessary, m view of tbe fact that the socialists would undoubtedly have availed themselves oi the opportunity to hold demonstrations and unpleasant complications might have arisen.
