[pkr press association.] Supreme Court. Auckland, To-day. The Supreme Court criminal setsion opened 10-day. The Judge, in addressing the Grand Juiy, said there were sixteen prisoners charged with nineteen offences, the most serious being a charge of murder and one of attempted murder. The Grand Jury found a true bill re Maria Long charged with larceny. Inquest. New Plymouth, To-day, An inquest was held on the body of Captain Davidson last night, when a verdict to the effect that ha had shot himself whilst in a fit of temporary insanity was returned. Financial difficulties are said to have led the fatal deed. Supreme Court. V\ ELLINGTON, To-day. The Supreme Court criminal session commenced this morning before the Chief Justice. In his charge to the Grand Jury His Honor remarked that the fourteen cases were very simple and involved no difficulty. Parliamentary Vacancies. It is not expected that the elections to the House of Representatives to fill the vacancies occurring through the recent appointments to the Council will take place under six weeks. No Music. Dunedin, To-day. The City Council, by the Mayor’s casting vote, declined to allow the Navals Band to play in the Botanical Gardens on Sundays. Sudden Death. Millchamp, a tradesman in George street, died suddenly at Waihola while returning from a a holiday trip. Supreme Court. Judge Williams’s charge was brief. The following prisoneis pleaded guilty and were sentenced George Piper, larceny, six months; Joseph Albert Green, embezzlement, three years ; Harry Dennett Willcox, postmaster at Alexandra, embezzlement, two years ; Frederick Rowe, burglary, twelve months. Child Beating. Carrie Fleming plead ect guilty to child beating. Sentence is deferred.
