WAIMATE RACES. ; [by telegraph,] [from our own correspondent.] In spite of the very unfavorable weather which prevailed, there was a good attendant at the races held here yesterday. Seven events figured on the card, and nearly all the finishes were close. The totalisators, of which there were two, under' the J charge of Mr Dodge, of Oamaru, did excellent business, close on LSOO being passed through. Appended are the results of the various events : Hurdles, 30 so vs ; 2 miles.
Milo, lOat 51b ... 1 Captain, 9«f7lb ... 2 Wfldboy, list 3 Albion also started. A very close race ensued between Captain and Milo, the hitter eventually coming in first. Waimatk County Hack Hurdle Race, of 15 sovs; 1J miles. Mr M. Sherwin jun’s Mody ... 1 WAtmatr Handicap, of 40 sovs; 2 miles. Albion, 7st 101 b 1 Mokorakara, 7at 51b 2 Violin, Sat 3 Violin was distanced, but the other horses kept well together, both running splendidly. County Purse, 25 sovs; 1 mile. Mokarakara, 9st 1 Hinerna, 7st 51bs 2 Magician, Bst 81b 3 Seven horses started for this event, but Mokarakara had a very easy task and won easily. Publicans’ Handicap, ,40 sovs; miles. Milo, 6st 101 b 1 Mokarakara, 7st 81b 2
Violin, Bst 3 Oalamante and Swindler also ran. Mokarakara and Milo raced well together, but on entering the straight it was seen that the latter had the advantage, and coming way, he won rather easily by two lengths. The Hack Seizing Rack, was won by Mr- A. M'Kay’s Horatio, Nellie being second. Six ran.
The Consolation Race, of 15 sovs, was soonred by Violin, Swindler second, and Hinerna third. The last mentioned had a good chance of winning, but unfortunately ran off the course.
