Ashburton Guardian Office, Saturday Afternoon. Messrs Jameson and Roberts (agents for • Messrs Robt. Wilkin and Co.) report on the -j sale of.stock held at Tinwakl, on Tuesday -;■ last, at follows :—The entries of sheep, cattle, ‘■ j and pigs were very numerous. There was a good attendance of buyers, and most of the lots entered found a ready sate. We sold on account of various owners —788 merino wethers ’..at 6s, 179 wethers at 7s lod, 300 wethers at 0 6s lod, 207 at 6i 3d, 75 at 7s pci, 148 merino ’ ewes at 5s id, 100 merino ewes at 4s 4d, 402 at 3s. 200 at 3s Sd, 100 at 3s. We sold pigs ready for the butcher as follow: —24 a! 60s, 16 at 55s 6d, 23 at 40s 6d, 17 at 30s, 16 at 28s. . We also sold 35 head of cattle from 50s to I ‘-’ 1203. Store cattle are very dule of sale. Yesterday afternoon an extensive sale of land S was held by Messrs H. Matson and Co. The land comprised a portion of the well-known Longbsach estate of Messrs Griggand Russell. At the opening of the sale, Mr Matson, who r . officiated as auctioneer, stated that 2,360 acres had been privately sold, including the following Two blocks on the Ashburton Terrace, representing a total acreage of 930 a 2r 27p, divided into six lots, averaging over 100 acres each. These realised Li 0,237 7s id, or at the rate of Lli pet acre ; the portion of the Longbeach estate in the river bed block, consisting of 1,423 acres, which was sold at L 3 per acre, a total of 14,296. Harley; 100 a3r 26p, at Lio, to Mr Taylor ; 100 a3r sop, at L 9 ios to Mr Thomas • • Hayman ; 174a3r25p, at LiS, to Mr Henry .■■Gray; 92a 3r 33p, at Ll 4, to Mr D. Fechney; t l6a or 34, at LlB lot, to Mr Dakers; and s : lls4a : cr 30p, at L 9, to Mr George Giddings. The sales amounted to 122,697 8s 6d, and i averaged more than Ll2 an acre. In connecwith this sale it may be noted that Mr Grigg has privately disposed of the Trevenna ~ estate of 1,579 acres, at Ll 7 ios per acre, equal '■ ia 127,632 ios. The complete sale has '' thus been effected of the portion of Mr Grigg’s estate offered to the public is an evidence of the demand, on a limited scale, for really good properties, and shows that good land offered in small lots will, as a rule, find purchasers.
