A Family Burned to Death
News was brought in this morning of the dreadful death by fire of a man, his wife, and three children at Wharearaea ferry. The man’s name was Smith, and he had been ferryman for many years. No one knew of the fire until some persons going by discovered the remains of the building and also those of the unfortunate man and his wife. The body of a child was found on the hill side where some dogs had dragged it.
