SOUTH RAKIA ROAD BOARD.
The adjourned regular meeting of the ibove Board was held on Friday last. Present—Messrs C. N. Mackie (Chairman), E. S. Coster, and W. Allan. Mr W. Compton, overseer of the Mount Hutt Road Board, waited on the Board ind handed in a resolution passed by that Board at their last meeting in reference to the slorm-water drainage scheme, and stated that it was estimated that the work would cost in its entirety about L2BCO. —The Board expressed themselves in favor of the scheme submitted, but would not give an answer until a full meeting of the Board had discussed the question.—The following is the resolution passed by the Mount Hutt Beard: —“That this Board is prepared to support some such scheme of drainage as that discussed at the meeting of the South Rakaia and Mount Hutt Road Boards, and that the plans and estimates, when prepared, be submitted to the South Rakaia Road Board for their co-operation, and finally to the County Council, with a request for their approval and assistance in carrying it Seeing that *he amount of acreage benefited in the South Rakaia district is much larger than that of the, Mount Hutt, the proportion of the expense should be borne as follows Mount Hutt one quarter ; South Rakaia, half; County Council, one quarter.”—lt was resolved consider the scheme. ” Mr. H. Struthers waited on the Board with reference to contract for forming McPhail’s road, and stated that the Clerk would not pass his work.—lt was resolved “That the Chairman and Mr. Coster visit the work with the Clerk.” Mr. F. Brown also claimed for extra work said to be done cn the Plantation road.—lt was resolved —“ That his claim could not be entertained.” The following correspondence was read: —From the Wuhanui Road Board, asking
the Board to contribute a share of the expense they had incurred in getting up a memorial in reduction of the railway tariff.—;On the motion of Mr. Coster, seconded by Mr. Allan, it was resolved — “ That the Wakanui Road Board be informed that if the other local bodies agree to bear part of the expense, this Board will pay their share.”—From the Ashburton County Council, with reference to building a cottage on Burnt Island for the use of the ferryman, and stating that they 1 were in communication with the Selwyn j County Council in the matter.”—Prom Mr. W. J. Hussy, drawing the attention of the Board to the dangerous state of
Thomson’s track from one of the flumings £prthowater race. It was resolved that a culvert he placed under the fluming, and that the place he made safe for traffic. . The Clerk was instructed to let two open crossings to Mr. Dent, to make on Mitcham’s road, at L 8 each ; also to fttThw Mr.’Rodger to plough and sow a piece of road near his land with grass seed, under his supervision.—A petition fiWfcs received from residents in the town- . ship, asking to have the road formed from the main river road to the Cemetery. .Itwas resolved to form the road from the 1 Cemetery along the Acton fence towards township. Tenders were received for compiling the rate roll for 1882, and that of Mr. Oxley for Lit) 10s., was accepted. Accounts amounting to L2OB ss, were submitted and passed for payment, and the Board adjourned.
