[per press association.] Criminal. , Timaru, To-day. The Supreme Court opens to-morrow. The criminal business comprises two cases of arson, one of forgery and utteiing, four of theft and false pretences, and one of sodomy. There are also two civil cases. A Big Vessel Alongside the Breakwater. The locally-owned barque Ganyraede> 570 tons, with 300 tons of coal on boardj was brought alongside the wharf this morning to take in ballast from the trucks. This is the largest vessel that has yet been alongside. The Season and the Crops, Fruit, etc. Pain is a good deal wanted on the coast. There was a slight shower yesterday. Owing to the cold, spring fruit, etc., is backward, and from the same cause, the dry weather has not been so injurious as it otherwise would have been. The crops are looking well generally. N. Z. University. Christchurch, To-day. The Matriculation and J unior Scholarship examination for the New Zealand University commenced this morning. There are" eight candidates for the former and thirteen for the latter.
