[per press association.] Stabbing bis Messmate. Timaru, To-day. A Dutchman named Henry Leema, a cook on board the barque Andes, now lying in the Timaru roadstead, was arrested this morning by detective Kirby, on a charge of stabbing his messmate. Leema came ashore yesterday and got some drink, and on returning to the ship quarrelled with one of the sailors, and fought and stabbed him in the head with a tin-opener, inflicting a severe wound. Doctor Chilton went on board and sewed the wound up. Leema will bo brought up on Monday. Found Drowned. Donedin, To-day, Attho inquest on Martin Brennan, a verdict of found drowned was returned. Cakes of Gold. The Homeward Bound Company, Macetown, sent down a cake of 170 ounces gold from 210 tons. The Gladstone cake is estimated at over 400 ounces. More Immigrants. The Cotopaxi sailed from Plymouth on May 28th with 323 passengers. A Failure. The Wakatipu Steam Company after a stormy meeting agreed to wind up.
