Attempt to Upset an Engine.—A telegram from Taranaki on Thursday says :— lntelligence has just reached town of an attempt made on Tuesday evening to throw a ballast-engine off the line between Elthani and Ngaire. A large stone was put upon the line, and, before the engine could be stopped, it had run against the obstruction wich' such force as to cause the iron-girders to bend almost double. No one was hurt.
