DESTRUCTIVE FIRE NEAR AUCKLAND.

Messrs Ireland Bros. ’ Panmure Tannery —tfie largest and most extensive in New Zealand was totally destroyed by fire this morning. When discovered the flames had obtained a firm hold of the buildings, and nothing could be done to save them, or the goods which they contained. Nothing is at present known regarding the origin of the fire. The total loss is estimated at L 2,000. The insurances are very heavy, chiefly in the New Zealand offices. The New Zealand Company had a policy of L7,C00 on the tannery, but moat of it ia re-insured. The following are the approximate losses of the various companies involved : —New Zealand, L 3,500 ; Union, LSOO ; Standard. L 350 ; Transatlantic, LBOO ; Victoria, L 320 ; North British, L7OO.
