(Per Reuter's Agency.) A Big BanquetMelbourne, March 2. A banquet was give to Mr James Service last night prior to his departure for Europe to-day. There were 500 persons present. The speeches, delivered on the occasion were principally retrospective in their character. The Reform Bill. '•* h & Melbourne, To-day. After the second reading, of the Reform Bill to-night Mr. - Murray Smith will move to refer the Bill to a joint committee of the Council and the Assembly, but it is not known what action the Government will take in the matter. The Assembly and “The Argus." A discussion took place in, the Assembly last night on the question of prosecuting the Atgus for its criticism on the action of the Government, but the matter was allowed to drop without any decision being come to. Inquiry. Sydney, To-day. In the Legislative Assembly last night Mr Coofnbes, K.M.G., gave notice of motion in favor of a petition to the Queen, praying for the institution of an inquiry, into the working of the Court, of High Commissioners in the Western Pacific.
