[by telegraph.] Christchurch, To-day. Wairema Wharepa was to-day arraigned at the Supreme Court on a charge of wife murder. After evidence had been called the jury retired, and, after being absent an hour and a half, returned a verdict of guilty against Wairema Wharepa for the murder of his wife at the Chatham Islands, and the prisoner was sentenced to death. He was very excited during the trial, but cooled down after the retirement of the jury, and received the sentence quite calmly. He made no defence.
