PARLIAMENTARY NOTES.

(From our own Correspondent.)

Wellington, July 14

The House occupied all the afternoon discussing Sir W. Fox’s motion for Bible reading in public schools, Dr. Wallis and Mr. Stewart spoke in support of it, Mr. Rolleston, Mr. Saunders, and Mr. Ireland in opposition. The motion was talked out at 5.30.

On Government proposing Mr. Hurst to the chair, the Opposition proposed Mr. Thompson, and a sharp debate is now going on. The motion was rendered necessary by the illness of the Speaker, and Mr. Seymour being obliged to take his place.
