THE WAITAKI ELECTION.
There was great excitement over tho election on Wednesday for the Waitaki seat, and Oamaru was particularly stirring during the day. The following is the result of the polling, which, notwithstanding the fact that two Oppositionists were in the field, is a win for that party, so far, at least as tho fact goes that Mr. Jones, the successful candidate, is an Oppositionist. We favor the belief, however, that his success is more owing to local feeling and personal popularity than to any general feeling entertained of antagonism to the Ministry now in office Mr. Jones, 775 ; Mr. Reid, 666 ; Mr. Roberts, 168. There were 31 informal votes.
