IN THE MATTER 01* A BILL INTITULED AN ACT to Enable the Ashburton County Council to Supply the RateI'AVEKS OK THAI' I’ART OF THE COUNTY .ok Ashburton between the Ashburton and Kataia Rivers with Water. "\J OTICE is hereby given, that application is ' intended to be made at the next session of the Gener.d Assembly of New Zealand, to introduce a Bill to enable the Ashburton County Council to supply the ratepayers and residents of that part of the County of Ashburton between Ashburton and Rakaia Rivers with water, for Domestic, Agricultural, and Pastoral purposes and for such purposes to take witter from the said rivers to the extent of one half the volume thereof or from the tributary of the Ashburton River, known as “ Pudding Hill Stream,” to the extent of three-fourths of the volume thereof, and to purchase and hold all lands necessary for A such purposes, and to make and construct all the necessary works, and borrow the necessary money to enable the said County Council to do so, and making provision for the payment of the interest upon any loans and providing a sinking fund for the payment of ihc principal money. /.Iso defining the boundaries of any district within or in respect of which any water supply is to be provided. Also empowering the Council to enter upon any land within any district for the put pose of making the necessary surveys. Also enabling the Council to obtain the consent of the ratepayers within any district and defining the mode by which such consent is to he obtained. . .. Also enabling the Council to provide for and regulate the supply of water to ratepayers and' the charge to be paid therefor; and to make all necessary By-laws affecting such object, and to make all regulations necessary for the guidance of the Council in carrying out the provisions of the Act, and to fix penalties for the breach of any by-law or regulation, or for the wilful or malicious injury to, or trespass upon any work, or for taking or abstracting water therefrom, and for the recovery of such rates and penalties. Notice is hereby further given, that copies of the proposed Bill may be obtained at the offices of Messrs.
