My dear McLean There is nothing new here, you will see that O'Keeffe is operating at the Thames about the Beach claims. I think they can be gradually settled in the way I proposed. The individuals will be glad to the money. Williamson goes down only I suppose to come back again. Te Wheoro and Hone te One have gone on to Te Kuiti. Nothing has been heard of them since. Hetit has been in town but I have not been able to catch a glimpse of him. Brown has seen him once only for an instant. He (Brown) wonders what has come over the old man, thinks that he is afraid of being seen in communication with Government people. He used to correspond regularly with Brown but never writes now; he knows or pretends to know nothing of the purposes of the King in getting the great meeting together. Few members go by the Luna from here. The big ship is the attraction. Yours very truly Daniel Pollen August 9/71
