May 20th 1859 Dear McLean, I forgot to say that on Weber's arrival here and after due enquiry I found that Mr. Ross was within a few days (10 at the outside) of finishing the verifying of the surveys of the south Porongahau Block. Under the circumstances it seemed a waste of money to remove the man in the middle of his work - so I authorized, on your behalf, that he shd. finish St. Hills run and then stop work. I know your friend Kinross is interested in getting St.Hills case through and on all grounds it was best to let the man finish the Block when so nearly done He must be repaid the expense tho by the general Govt. In haste Yours always J. D. Ormond
