7/5/72 My Dear Sir I have got two first rate men to send up to the Taupo natives. Barry of Barrys claim and another. They will leave on Thursday and go up by way of Cambridge - We find them in provisions and tools and give them 1 p.week, and the promise of a £500 reward and a 20 acre claim in the event of their opening a good goldfield - If it is to be done they will do it. Would you be so kind as send the enclosed telegram to Inspector Scannell to forward to the natives so that they may know I am not neglecting their request. I called to see you this morning but you had gone to Onehunga - If you wish to see me please fix a time and I will come up - I am, Yours truly, Thomas B. Gillies To:--The Hon.D. McLean C.G.M.C.
