July 24th. 1852. To McLean, and the Governor. Friend McLean, greeting! My address to you is this, with reference to what Hori has said. It originated with myself. You also have seen Patangata when these slaves were at the time. These two persons were seized with this sickness. They both explained the matter to me; that is to say, Ha-muera and Ripeka; and they have been fetched back again, leaving me as the pay, or to suffer the shame.
