My dear Sir I make out from Mr. Steddy that matters are very far from satisfactory. There is a determined hostile feeling between Hirini's party and Morgans. I have sent for Hirini and shall arrange for the people to come here tomorrow. I think you may very well come on shore this afternoon and sleep at Reads where I shall be. I am just sending off to my son. It will not be at all necessary to touch upon any business today, but if you simply say you will not speak until all are together, which is according to native etiquette. The advantage of your sleeping on shore will be that you will not be uneasy about any change of wind. Yours very fai thfully W. Waiapu D. Maclean Esq. June 4, 1865
