6-9-73 My dear Sir I hope that Marshall's account of early days in Waikato, as it appears in my little book, may recommend itself sufficiently to you as a sort of record of old Maori ways, for you to see your way to taking some copies for the ative Office. I would also point out to you that in the portion written by myself, I have not lost sight of the possibility of its being read by intending immigrants, and I hope you will be able to recommend that Immigration Agents in England should receive some copies -- It was not worth a dedication otherwise you may be assured that I should have requested your leave to dedicate it to "my chief". Believe me Yours truly J. St. John
