Turanganui 12th. June 1852. Sir, I have to acknowledge receipt of your despatch dated 6th. ultimo. relative to the Warrekaka run recently held by Messrs. Clifford and Weld and enclosing 1st. and 2nd. clauses of the Native land Purchase Ordinance Sess. 7 No. 19 and in reply beg to state, that I was negotiating with the Natives of Wairarapa for Warrekaka for a party but on hearing the intentions of the Government I did not move further in the matter. When Warrekaka was abandoned I considered (by the terms of the lease) I had an equal right to contend for it against other parties and I have merely to add that I will not waive any legal right which I may have in favour of any other party - to the Government alone do I hold myself in subservience. I have the honor to be, Sir, Your most obed. servt. Jos. Kelly. Donald McLean Esq
