4 February 1876 Glenorchy My dear Donald It was a fortunate thing you went down on the Monday as their was very little chance since of getting down. We had nearley as much flood yesterday as the first flood up here only the river course was clear and wider and took away a larger body of water. I got my stack thatched on Wednesday during the spurt of dry weather that day and so far secure but I find that the beautiful crope of potatoes I had is nearley all rotten and rotting. If the weather does not slake up I fear much distress will be the result to many. I need not demuir so much or yet need you as we are much better than many others in the
