Mount Herbert 8th. May 1863. My dear McLean, I write two lines to say that I hope to see you next week about Thursday. Meantime I have to say that Hori Niamia has written you a few lines I believe asking you as to the propriety of leasing a piece of land to Doitch the Napier Jew to put up a stone on. You will oblige me by writing him recommending him not to do so at present but don't say that I have had any communication with you on the subject. I have leased the land except at the Pah for 10 years at £25 a year - a large rent for it, to prevent trouble with my strays cattle, and hope to purchase it by and bye. Hori and others leased this to me lately but what they intend to do is to give him a piece of land at the Pah - by no means a desireable arrangement. Yours in haste H. R. Russell. D. McLean Esq.
