Tauranga 1st. December 1870 My dear Sir, Mr. Swindley informs me that Tamaikowha, on 29th, ult, sent a messenger to warn the people of Opotiki to be on the alert; as Te Kooti intended making a raid on the place. Tamaikowha also wrote to the same effect, to Major Mair. Captain Mair has not yet returned from sick leave. The Lands Court commenced its sittings here this afternoon. A man named Dennis Foley nearly killed his half-caste wife this morning. Foley is no doubt insane. I leave for Auckland this evening in the "Sampson", to attend the Supreme Court. I have just heard of the sad news of the shooting of poor Todd at Raglan. I remain, my dear Sir Yours very truly (Signed) W. Moule. To:- The Hon. D. McLean Native and Defence Minister Wellington.
