Mount Herbert. 20th. April 1865. My dear Maclean. I am glad to hear you are improving, though slowly. The worry of the present crisis must retard your recovery. I have written Cooper some particulars about the rather alarming spread of the Hau Hau in this neighbourhood. He will give you particulars. I am informed by the Assistant Land Officer that the Attorney General had written to you about the Resolutions of the Waipukurau Bench, recommending the jurisdiction to be increased to £50, and the establishment of Petty Sessions. As these measures are really essential to the proper administration of justice inland, I trust you will write approving of the Resolution, by the next mail, if you have not already done so. Lambert is very energetic, I hear; and I have no doubt he will effect great improvements in the Military affairs of the Province; which are so much neded. Yours always, (Signed) N. Thomson. (?)
