Wellington Augst. 24th./62 My dear McLean, I have been writing about getting the road cut and surveyed on our side of the 40 mile us. You know I was expecting to have met old Herewanu here and settled with him about the Run I want at Manawatu. He has not come, nor Karaitiana. Will you write him that he is not to dispose of it elsewhere until he has met me about it. I understand in fact that I have the offer of it from him. Karaitiana promised to write him to the effect that he had arranged with me that I was to have it, and that terms were to be settled when he and the old man came to Wellington. Will you ask him if he has done so. I ought to get it settled as now that a line is likely to be soon cut through there it will be valuable. I am sure you will help me with it. I am writing Gollan, Rhodes and Canning to see to my interests in the Election business. The best way I think would be to get People to pledge themselves by signing a Requisition to stand again. I shall write you tomorrow. Yours always J.D. Ormond.
