Wellington Feby 5th [1872] Mon chere frere I wrote you last Monday. Since then Douglas heard from you. I thought perhaps you would have taken a run up to Wellington. While waiting on the Luna to take you to Taranaki we are oppressed with heat here but am afraid you have it worse at Wanganui. We have had no one staying in the house since Mrs Godwin left. Douglas daily begins to see the utility of mathematics. Am glad to see him begin chemistry. It is a study that he really likes. It will occupy his spare time. I cannot endure his having too much time unoccupied. He is a dear good boy when he attempts any frolic I have only to say would that he in accordance with your father's wish whatever it is he gives way at once. I wish the Harts were back. I am very lonely at times. I have only had one letter from you since you left. In haste Yours Annabella McLean
