Private Parnell Ad. 19th Decr./ 70 My dear Sir, It has been suggested to me, many times, that my note of Decr, 10th/69 addressed to you at Ohinemuri could never have reached you, or I should have recd, an answer long ago. Knowing however your constant engagements and the annoyance such petitioning letters must give, I have waited patiently in hope of receiving some favourable notice, sooner or later. My only official occupation at present, is that of Inspector of Asylums (£50) which necessitates a weekly visit to the Whao. But that I could do, in addition to other work if it were only provided for me. Major Heaphy tells me, that though his head-quarters are here yet he will be required to visit each of the other Provincials once a year. Could you not therefore appoint me as his assistant to help him when in Auckland and take charge of the office etc. when he is absent or ill. In such a capacity, I think I could manage to give you satisfaction. I hope you will not be offended with the renewal of my suit, but that circumstances may have arisen since I last saw you which will allow of its favourable consideration. There are few cases in which you could do a greater kindness. Yours ever truly, H. H. Turton To Honble Donald McLean WELLINGTON
