Waiapu June 20th. 1872. Dear McLean, I direct this to Wellington where I suppose you must be by this time. I have been expecting to see the "Luna" for the last two or three weeks on her return from Auckland. I made a great effort to meet you at Horoera when I found that I could not cross the Waiapu river but there was not time. I should have liked much to see you. Things have been going on more quietly for the last few weeks than they were then - but I do not see that there will be much peace between Morgan, Wiki and Iharara till some definite arrangement is made about the Land. It is difficult to say at present what would be best for these people, one thing is certain that as long as their claims continue in this confused state there will be constantly recurring difficulties. I have a report prepared for next mail containing a few suggestions which I hope may be approved. I enclose two or three of the inumerable letters which I am constantly receiving which will give you some idea of their thoughts. I am suffering from a severe attack of influenza and rheumatism or I should write at more length. ever yours truly, J.H. Campbell.
