Letter from William Fox, Principal Agent N.Z. Co. to the Honble, the Colonial Secretary, relating to payment of allowances to Mr. McLean, dated 24th. June 1850. New Zealand Company's Office Wellington 24th. June 1850. Sir, I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of the 22nd. current, relative to an account for an allowance to Mr. McLean; which, by your letter of the 17th. current, I was requested to pay; and the particulars of which, omitted from your previous letter, you now supply. In reference to Mr. McLean's employment generally on this occasion, I shall have the honor to address you separately. As regards your request that I will pay the amount of Mr. McLean's allowance to that gentleman, (£49.7.0), I have to request that you will approriate to that purpose the sum of £49.0.9 due from the Local Government to the Company on the accounts referred to in my letter to yourself, dated the 20th. current. The Balance of 6/3d. can be received you on our exchanging mutual receipts, which I conceive will be the simplest method of adjusting these transactions; and for which purpose Mr. Kelham will wait upon you, or the Treasurer, whenever convenient.
