Waipawa 26th. November 1868 Dear Sir, I am in receipt of your favour of 23rd. inst. I have enquired at what depth water may be obtained, both at Court and the Church. Water could be obtained at the Court at about 30 feet. At the Church, as it is situated on a rise, it is very uncertain, as rock exists at certain depths. Probably you might have to sink 100 feet; judging that to be about the level of the Waipawa river. Surface water might be obtained. I would not advise it, on account of drainage from the graves. I remain dear Sir Yours truly (Signed) F.S. Abbott. To:- His Honour The Superintendent Napier
