Tuesday 13 April /76. Sir D. McLean, Sir, Relative to the Ngatiporou district. I have pondered the subject over and have good and sound reasons for feeling assured I could not work under the authority of Mr. Wilson. I can however promise him my co-operation outside of Ngatiporou. Further that the boundaries of the district shall be altered from Mawhai to Tawhiti or northern side of Tokomaru, inland of which Mr. Wilson has commenced negotiation for country. My wife has large interests in the said land and I am willing she shall deal with Mr. Wilson to the extent of her interests. I have adopted this course of communicating my willingness to cooperate with Mr. Wilson or to receive advice from him, but by working independtly we are more likely to work mutually together. I have the honor to be Yours most faithfully, T.W. Porter, Adjt.
