New Plymouth Novr. 10th 1845 My Dear Sir, I am much obliged to you for your kind notes wh. I recd, at Waimate, and thank you for the generous offers of assistance wh. you have made. I trust however, that the, "Tikanga porewarewa" (for I can call it by no better name) will now have recd, an effectual check, i.e. if Mr. Taylor gives the same advice to his people wh. I have done to ours. According to your request, I have sent your N. Z. Dicty. to Mr. Hough, who will doubtless make a good use of your kind present. I returned home from Waimate last Wedy. eveng. and found everything here in a peaceable state. Nor is there any news of a local or general character wh. I have to communicate - except a rumour (and it is only a rumour brought from Nelson in a letter to Mr. Wicksteed) that Capt. Grey of S.Australia is our newly appointed Kawana. A small dispute had arisen on account of Cattle Trespass, but by the payment of £s3 to the natives, the case was amicably arranged. Wishing you a pleasant trip, I am, Yours truly, H. Hanson Turton. D. McLean Esqr. Keihearanei Kei te ao katoa.
