Waipawa May 22nd 1863 To Donald McLean Esqre. Dear Sir I am sorry to say that I have not collected much information respecting the Natives not having been in their neighbourhood - I am now engaged in conjunction with Mr. Cooper in settling the O Tane bush dispute which I hope to see finished as soon as the weather will allow us to work - The Natives of Te Aute are dividing amongst themselves the alleged cause being a dispute regarding the ownership of the land and of there not being sufficient clear land in the neighbourhood of the settlement for the plough Hupata with a few others are gone to the Hau-ke - Paraone to Ngawakatatara - The rest are divided between Patangata and Te Aute - I hear that it annoys Mr. Williams very much - The Te Aute people are verry anxious to bring up the old Oero dispute again - I have no doubt but you have heard all about these affairs long ago but I will endeavour to send more information next time - I remain Dear Sir Your obed. Servant Saml. Locke Donald McLean Esqre. J. P. etc. etc. Napier
