Letter from H.B. Johnstone to Donald McLean Esq. dated October 1858 Wellington October 1858 My dear McLean, I am not settled yet, for I have not got over leaving Auckland, etc., I thank you for your kind letter, and all your other good wishes. I find a good opening for us both in Wellington and Canterbury, but my inclinations prefer Auckland as a place to live in, before them. But I should be showing bad pluck, if I were to return there at present. I enclose a note which I shall be much obliged if you will give to Mr. Kenyon for me. I am writing in the greatest haste, so you must excuse a mere line, for I had made up my mind to nothing, a month ago. But I think, without doubt, I shall make Canterbury my head-quarters. At all events I shall try it. I think, and every one says down there, that this is a first-rate opening. I should be glad to have a line from you by return post. Your brother would, no doubt, kindly bring any letters for me. Wishing you all the good wishes this world can bestow, Believe me, very sincerely yours (Signed) H.B. Johnstone To:- D. McLean Esq. Auckland.
