Letter from William Fox, Principal Agent, N.Z. Co. to the Honble, the Colonial Secretary, dated 18th. June 1850. relative to Vouchers for Mr. McLean, forwarded to him. New Zealand Company's Office Wellington 18th. June 1850. Sir, I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of yesterday's date, covering certain "vouchers for allowances to Mr. McLean, while negotiating the purchase of Land in this Province"; and requesting me to pay the same to that gentleman. In reply I beg to call your attention to the fact that you do not state on what negotiations Mr. McLean has been engaged, or mention any circumstances from which I might infer that he had been employed on behalf of the New Zealand Company. If his services have been of such nature, I have to request that you will supply the particulars; stating for what districts, and with what natives, Mr. McLean has been in negotiation; and referring to any requisition of mine which may have led to his employment.
