Ngarwahia. August 15th. 1872. My dear Sir, I hear that I am to go to Raglan temporarily, to relieve Mr. Reimenschneider. If this is the case, I shall be placed in the same position that I was with respect to going to Wellington, namely, the keeping up of two establishments; which I cannot afford with the slender means at my disposal; and to put an end to which was my object in asking you to locate me permanently in some place. I have, of course, no objection to go there, save on the score of the greatness of the expenses which I would incur; as the new Treasury regulations order that copies of Cash Book shall be sent in every Saturday, instead of once a month as heretofore. Consequently I shall have to be there every Saturday. Hence the most of the week, I shall be on the road, to and from that place; a circumstance which will entirely prevent me from performing my clerical duties at Hamilton and places, as well as give me no time to attend to Native matters. Mr. Riemenschneider can vouch for the very bad state of the road; it being as much as he could do to reach Alexandra. May I therefore be permitted to suggest that Mr. A Barton perform the clerical duties at Raglan for the present. He would be put to no extra expenxe; as his people reside there; and moreover he is well known to the inhabitants of that place. Pardon me for troubling you at such time; and trusting that you will sanction my request, I am, my dear Sir, Yours very faithfully, (Signed) R.S. Bush. To:- Hon. D. McLean C.M.G. Wellington.
