Three Kings Instn. 21 June 1858. My dear Sir, Allow me to request of you to give Hanson a little Maori writing to do, in your Office, for a few weeks, until an opening occurs, or I can obtain for him a suitable situation elsewhere. I want no remmuneration for his services, during the time but simply a little work from him, under your superintendence. The fact is, we have lately discovered amongst our big boys and girls and women, a little bit of fornication and adultery --- 6 mths. of the latter. All tried to cover it up, but I would not allow them to do so as they had done in the past, but called a komiti of my Brern. together who heard the cases, and decided that the various parties must leave instanter. In trying to carry out this decision I met with all kinds of objections and difficulties, but seeing that I was resolute, they then (and not until then) began --- I mean the girls did --- to hatch up accusations against Hanson, as if he had been playful with them too. I required Mr. Buddle to investigate the case, and he sees, as we do, that there is no proof whatever against the boy, and that they are all a foresworn lot --- doing so, to save themselves. However, Hanson, very properly, is unwishful to remain any longer in this vile place and requests to be allowed to go to the town to seek a proper livelihood for himself, and this permission under all the circumstances, I have readily granted. Because, if they have the hardihood to accuse him now, what wld. they not do, if he were older? So just give him a few wks. duty, and if, after that, you have no place for him, I will do my utmost to provide for him elsewhere. By the bye, I heard lately from Dr. Wilson, and he says that he shall write to you no more, until you have answered some ½ doz. of his last letters. So that you must confess to being a very great sinner. Yours truly, H. Hanson Turton.
