Auckland 14th. March 1850. My dear Sir, Many thanks for your two letters written in February, both of which duly reached me. I was sorry to hear of the refractory conduct of the natives at Taranaki; but hope it will all smooth down by and bye. No European shipping in here, or intelligence of any kind, but we are all anxiously looking out for English news. I expect to leave Auckland for Wellington about the middle of April, as my marriage takes place as soon as Lent is over; and I shall endeavour to get away as soon afterwards as possible to my own Province. Probably you will then be yourself in the Southern Division. Excuse this hasty scrawl, and believe me, My dear Sir, Very faithfully yours (Signed) G. Eyre. P.S. If you have not left Taranaki, will you be good enough to send a Policeman expressly overland with a packet of letters I have sent to the Taranaki Post-master to be forwarded to the Post-master at Wellington; as I wish them to be sent on without delay. (Signed) G. Eyre. To:- Donald McLean Esq.
